And as with other not so commonly known topics, you may come across not only facts, but also half-truths and myths. Let’s take a look at some of the myths about testosterone replacement therapy and clarify them.

Myth 1: TRT is only for bodybuilders and athletes.

Fact: No, this is not true! Even though some bodybuilders and athletes may use testosterone to improve their physical fitness and results, testosterone replacement therapy is primarily a medical treatment for men with low testosterone levels. Testosterone levels may decrease with age and men may then start experiencing symptoms such as fatigue, loss of muscle mass, mood changes and others. TRT helps restore your testosterone levels to optimal levels and relieve these symptoms.

Myth 2: TRT will make you angry and aggressive.

Fact: Some people think that testosterone causes “roid rage” (uncontrollable aggression and violence linked to use of steroids) and that is not quite correct. Professionally diagnosed and medicated TRT brings testosterone levels to their normal values range, it doesn’t increase them to extreme levels. Most men on TRT state that they feel better and their mood has improved. As with any medication and medical treatment, there may be side effects present. It is therefore important to discuss any mood changes with your doctor during your regular check ups and consultations.

Myth 3: TRT is a magical pill against aging.

Fact: TRT is not a fountain of youth. It may help with certain symptoms of low testosterone levels, but it doesn’t stop the aging process or all its associated effects. On the other hand, age also means gained experience and wisdom and that counts too!

       Did you know?

It is estimated that 25% of men have low testosterone levels. TRT is a legitimate medical treatment that aims to restore your natural levels of hormones, not to increase them to extreme levels.

Myth 5: You will need to stay on TRT forever.

Fact: This does not necessarily stand true. Whilst some men may need to stay on TRT longterm, some men may use the therapy only for a short period of time. Each treatment plan is unique to your specific needs and this is why you are at all times under the supervision of your doctor and your treatment plan is amended as necessary during this time.

Myth 6: TRT causes cancer.

Fact: Current research does not suggest that TRT would be directly causing cancer. Nonetheless, if you already have prostate cancer, testosterone may speed up its progress. It is very important to regularly monitor your own health and discuss any potential risks with your doctor.

To summarise, TRT is a modern medical treatment for men suffering from low testosterone levels and its symptoms. As with any medical treatment, it is important to be fully informed and make a decision based on facts, not myths. Do always discuss and agree any potential treatment with your doctor.
